Another week when weather conditions were not conducive to being out fishing, but for those who braved the elements the fishing was very good.  With Swanswater being quite exposed to the strong winds, the small ponds once again came into their own and provided shelter and sport for several anglers.  Although the fish in these ponds are slightly smaller than those in Swanswater they are of the same top quality.  Also some anglers enjoy taking advantage of the  fact that catch and release is allowed here.  As has been the case for a few weeks big numbers of “average” size fish were landed, and this is reflected in the catch returns.   Dancers, Damsels, Cat’s Whiskers and Cormorant were the favourite patterns with a few fish also being taking on Snatchers and Black Spider, especially from the small ponds.  Amongst those doing well this week were Alec Neil, Alva, 5 for 15lb including 6lb 4oz Rainbow from the Meadow Pond, and a Blue Allan McLachlan, Plean, 5lb 8oz Rainbow Tom McCormack, Tullibody, 3 for 8lb 10oz from the Millpond including 5lb 2oz Rainbow and a Blue Davy Cormack, Perth, 8 for 20lb Malcolm Miller , Clackmannan, 5 for 13lb 8oz  Colin Binnie, Denny, 5 for 12lb 12oz George Kochanek, Tullibody, 5 for 12lb 8oz Dennis Lennon, Airdrie, 5 for 12lb 4oz Gary McDonald, Tillicoultry, 4 for 10lb 12oz

The weather was definitely the winner towards the end of the week with the severe gales and heavy rain overnight on Thursday night making Swanswater virtually unfishable on Friday.  Conditions improved slightly by Saturday morning but the water was still very high and the fishing was not easy.  Fortunately the small ponds, being more sheltered, were not so badly affected and continued to produce a good number of fish, as they had done all week.  Early in the week plenty of fish were being caught, on Dancers, Damsels, Buzzers and Bloodworms, although there was nothing big to report.  One angler was even having some tremendous sport on the Millpond using a Snatcher. Amongst those catching their limit this week were: Dennis Lennon, Airdrie, 5 for 13lb including a Blue Peter Bryce, Alloa, 5 for 12lb 12oz Sandy Ireland, Lochgoilhead, 5 for 12lb 8oz Davy Thomson, Alva, 5 for 12lb Harry Seton, Clydebank, 5 for 11lb 8oz including a Blue Allan McLachlan and son, Chris, shared 5 for 10lb from the Millpond Willie Stewart, Plean, in two visits, 6 for 16lb 8oz including a Blue Willie McAleese, Laurieston, 3 for 8lb 8oz

Another excellent week's sport at Swanswater with many anglers taking their limits.  Although the weather was unpredictable with temperatures rising and falling almost daily and some heavy rain and strong winds, the fishing was very good and over 330 fish were caught.  As has been the case for some weeks, small lures fished on intermediate lines were doing best with the usual favourite patterns - Yellow Dancer, Damsel, especially Hot Head, and Cat's Whisker - taking most of the fish although Buzzers, Cormorant and Hog-louse were also attracting a good number.   For much of the week a large proportion of the fish caught were in the channel along the front of the island, but they were moving around and were also being caught in the dam area and the far bay.The best bag of the week was taken by Davy Thomson, Alva, with 5 for 22lb 12oz including Rainbows at 8lb 2oz and 7lb 8oz

Amongst other good bags this week were:  Scott Barnes, Balloch, 4 for 16lb 8oz including 9lb 10oz Rainbow Jim Allan, Kilsyth, 4 for 15lb 8oz including 8lb 4oz Rainbow Bill Dawson, Stirling, 4 for 16lb 8oz including 8lb Rainbow Danny Doherty, Denny, 5 for 14lb 8oz including a Blue Alec Neil, Mentstrie, 5 for 14lb 8oz Callum McCready, Fauldhouse, 4 for 12lb 4oz including a Blue Nan Morrison, Stirling, 4 for 11lb 2oz including a Blue Rab Don, Plean, 3 for 10lb  4oz Jim Russell, Denny, 2 for 6lb

With the weather going from gale force winds and torrential rain to very hard frost it might be thought that the fishing would suffer but it was very good this week with nearly 300 fish caught despite the stormy conditions and high water levels.  Most were taken on small lures with the usual patterns - Yellow Dancer, Hot-head Damsel and Cat's Whisker - the favourites, although other patterns and colours were also doing well including a variety of Black and Green or Pink lures.  The fish were well spread out round the ponds though there were hot spots, including the channel between the island and the roadside, and, at certain times, the far bay beside the walkway.   When the temperature took a dramatic dip on Friday night, the aerators kept conditions ice-free and while water levels were high after the midweek storms, Wednesday was the only day that the water was particularly dirty. One double figure Rainbow was landed this week.  Ethan Mayall, Glenrothes, took a lovely 10lb 6oz specimen on a black andgreen lure.Other good catches includedJohn McCormick, Bannockburn, 8lb 8oz RainbowJohn Relf, Falkirk, 2 for 11lb 15ozincluding 8lb 7oz RainbowNan Morrison, Stirling, 6lb 12oz Rainbow George Simpson, Falkirk 3 for 11lb 8oz including 6lb 5oz Blue Gordon Paterson, Dundee, 4 for 11lb 8oz including a Blue Derek Harley, Cardenden, 3 for 9lb 2oz Angus Dixon, Dundee, 2 for 6lb 8oz including a Blue

It was a good start to the New Year for those anglers who braved the cold snowy conditions at Swanswater.  Even when it was snowing heavily on Thursday there were plenty of fish taking and many anglers took their bag limits.  The wind and rain on Saturday, while clearing the remaining snow, slowed the fishing a little but the water remained fairly clear and the fish were still taking.  Some days the fish were moving up and down the channel between the island and the road side making this area and the deeper central area covered by the boats the hot spots, although fish were being taken all round the ponds.  Yellow Dancer, Hot-head Damsel, Cat's Whisker, Cormorant, and Buzzers were the most successful patterns.  Dennis Lennon, Airdrie, had three very successful outings in the boat ending up with  15 for 46lb 15oz including 7lb 13oz Blue, 7lb Rainbow  and 3 Blues. Others doing well this week included Gordon Smith, Lesmahagow, 8lb 12oz Rainbow Simon Thomson, Falkirk, 3 for 12lb including 7lb 14oz Rainbow George Rose, Perth, 4 for 14lb 8oz including 7lb 8oz Rainbow Grant Smith, Stirling, 3 for 12lb 8oz including 7lb 2oz Rainbow Andy Duffin, Fallin, 3 for 12lb including 6lb 14oz Rainbow John Duncan and son, Christopher, Clydebank, 4 for 13lb 4oz including 6lb 12oz Blue for 14 year old Chris Andrew Knox, Denny, in two visits 7 for 18lb 12oz including 5lb 11oz Rainbow Roy McIntosh, Banknock, 4 for 12lb 8oz Harry Seton, Clydebank, 3 for 9lb including 2 Blues

The fishing was very good for most of the week, the only exception being a consequence of the heavy rain on Thursday and Friday with the resulting dirty water making things a bit more difficult.  However the ponds quickly cleared and the fishing improved again at the weekend.  Damsel, Dancer, Cat’s Whisker, Cormorant, Buzzers and Bloodworm  were the favourite patterns this week, and the best tactic was and intermediate line with a slow retrieve.

The Boxing Day Competition was very successful with the 35 participants landing a total of 84 fish and several competitors bagging up.   The winner was Gordon Barron, Falkirk.  Runner up was James Elliott, Stirling, and Grant McCauley, Clydebank, was third.  The Raffle along with donations, and tea/coffee money over the year raised £1250.00, which will be matched by the Diageo Foundation making a total of £2500.00 for Strathcarron Hospice.  Many thanks to all those who bought tickets, and donated prizes or money, particularly FMTC, Angling Centre Stirling, Alan Buchan, Alec Peachey of Kinnears in Scone and Jim Donnelly of Diageo.   Thanks also to all those who took part on the day and to Rab Don for his usual excellent job as referee.Amongst the best bags this week were  Davy McGhee, Denny, 8lb 5oz Rainbow Philip Bryant, Falkirk, 3 for 11lb 12oz including 7lb 6oz Rainbow Gordon Barron, Falkirk, 5 for 14lb 4oz including 3 Blues Tam Coulter, Fauldhouse, 4 for 12lb including 2 Blues Joe Hunter, Tullibody, 4 for 11lb 4oz including a Blue Ken Thomas, Perth, 3 for 9lb 8oz  Euan McDougall, Tullibody, 3 for 8lb 14oz

Most of the week the fishing was excellent with the fish generally sitting fairly deep in the water and taking a variety of lures, including Dancer, Damsel, and Cat’s Whisker.  Buzzers, Bloodworm and PTN were also taking fish.  On the very cold days the fish were slightly more difficult to find and a very slow retrieve was needed.  Thanks to the aerators the ponds remain ice free and the fishery will be open 8.00am to 4.00pm every day except Christmas and New Year’s Days.  Angus Auchinachie, Falkirk, 2 for 11lb 12oz including 9lb 9oz Rainbow John Temporal, Deny, 4 for 15lb including 8lb Rainbow Andy Wilson, Tillicoultry, 2 for 9lb 12oz including 7lb 4oz Rainbow Ian Laird, Falkirk, 4 for 14lb 12oz including 7lb Rainbow Willie McAleese, Laurieston, 3 for 11lb 2oz including 6lb 14oz Rainbow and a Blue Euan McDougall, Tullibody, 5lb 4oz Rainbpw Alec Kelso, Stirling, 4 for 11lb 4oz including a Blue John Hester, Cumbernauld, 4 for 11lb 2oz Jim Donnelly, Tullibody, 3 for 8lb 12oz including 2 Blues Ross McNeill 3 for 8lb including 3lb 6oz Blue Joe Hunter, Tullibody, 2 for 7lb 4oz including a Blue Frank Acheson, Denny, 2 for 6lb including a Blue

Another good week's fishing with the fish surprisingly near the surface despite the cold weather.  Most fish were taken in the top three feet of water and many were taken on nymphs such as Diawl Bach and Pheasant Tail.  The water temperature was fairly stable at 6oC all week and the fish were well spread out round the ponds.  On Swanswater some days they were taking in the channel and roadside areas, other days the dam was the hotspot.  Most of the time the fish were round the margins of the pond, but there were occasions when they went out into the middle and the boats were doing well.  Three Rainbows just under the 10lb mark were taken this week and plenty of superb Blues are still figuring in the catch returns.  Alan Giebler, Tullibody, 4 for 17lb 4oz including 9lb 12oz Rainbow and a Blue Jim Skilling, Shotts, 3 for 15lb 10oz including 9lb 8oz Rainbow and a Blue Bill Dawson, Dollar, 3 for 15lb including 9lb 4oz Rainbow and a Blue Allan McLachlan, Plean, 6 for 21lb 8oz including 6lb 8oz Raibow Grant McCauley, Duntocher, 5 for 16lb 10oz including 4lb Rainbow and a Blue John Relf, Falkirk, 4 for 13lb 2oz including a Blue Rab Don, Plean, 3 for 12lb including 2 Blues, bigger one at 4lb 12oz Ronnie Loos, Stirling, 3 for 10lb 10oz including 2 Blues bigger one at 4lb George Simpson, Falkirk, 3 for 10lb Martin Phillips, Linlithgow, 3 for 9lb 14oz including 2 Blues Bill Gliniany, 3 for 9lb 4oz including a Blue Julian Rey, Helensburgh, 3 for 9lb including 2 Blues James Cole, Muirhead, 3 for 9lb including 2 Blues M Croft, Yorkshire, 2 for 7lb 4oz including 4lb 4oz Blue Nan Morrison, Stirling, 2 for 7lb 2oz including 4lb 2oz Rainbow and a Blue   Ricky Goodwin, Falkirk, 2 for 6lb 12oz

The water remains clear at Swanswater despite the heavy rain, strong winds and snow that have featured this week.  The fishing continues to be very good with the fish well spread out round the pond and still in the top 2 to 3 feet.  The water temperature rose a little midweek but then dropped again towards the weekend but this did not seem to affect either the position of the fish or their desire to take a wide variety of flies, mostly lures but also a few nymphs.  Yellow dancer, Damsel, Cat's Whisker, Buzzer, Bloodworm, Cormorant, Diawl Bach and Viva were amongst the most successful patterns this week.  One double figure Rainbow was taken along with several superb fish in the 6lb to 9lb range.   Mike McGoff, Airth, took the biggest fish of the week, a cracking 10lb Rainbow John Hester, Cumbernauld, 4 for 17lb 12oz including 9lb 8oz Rainbow Sandy Ireland, Lochgoilhead, 2 for 12lb including 9lb 8oz Rainbow Harry Seton, Clydebank, 5 for 19lb 8oz including 9lb Rainbow and 2 Blues Richard Elder, Glasgow, 2 for 11lb 8oz including 8lb 8oz Rainbow and a Blue Davy Duncan, Dunfermline, 3 for 12lb 14oz including 8lb 2oz Rainbow and 2 Blues Jim Brannan, Blackridge, 5 for 21lb 4oz including 7lb 10oz Rainbow and 3 Blues, biggest at 4lb 12oz Joe France, Balloch, 2 for 11lb 8oz including 7lb 8oz Rainbow and a Blue Alan Fernie, Stenhousemuir, 7lb Rainbow Colin Mulhearn, Irvine, 6lb 4oz Rainbow Jim Mackie, Perth, 3 for 11lb including 5lb 4oz Blue Jim Dougall, Kincardine, 3 for 10lb including 4lb 4oz Blue Andrew Knox, Denny, 4 for 13lb 12oz  including 3 Blues Mark Sullivan, Alexandria, 4 for 12lb 2oz including a Blue Euan McDougall, Tullibody, 4 for 12lb Bill Dawson, Dollar, 3 for 9lb 4oz including 2 Blues Ronnie Loos, Stirling, 3 for 9lb 2oz including a Blue John Patrick, Kilsyth, 2 for 7lb

Another good week’s fishing at Swanswater.  Over the course of the week the water temperatures rose a couple of degrees and this slight increase made the fish more actively look for feed and therefore go for a large variety of flies.  Lures, especially the usual Cat’s Whisker, Yellow Dancer and Hot-head Damsel, Buzzers, Bloodworm, nymphs, including Damsel and Montana, and even Hoppers have been catching fish this week.   Fish were being taken all over the ponds with no particular hot spots although the area behind the islands and the overflow were proving popular at certain times.  Some cracking 5lb to 9lb Rainbows were taken this week with the biggest one just under double figures.  Peter Baranowski, Bridge of Allan, took the biggest fish of the week a 9lb 12oz Rainbow Other good catches included Douglas Cullens, Tillicoultry, who took an 8lb 15oz Rainbow Mark Watson, Fishcross, 4 for 17lb including 8lb Rainbow and 2 Blues Harry Seton jnr., Clydebank, 5 for 19lb 11oz including 7lb 11oz Rainbow and a Blue Bill Wither, Edinburgh, 2 for 9lb 4oz including 6lb 14oz Rainbow Petrina Williams, Alloa, 2 for 11lb including 6lb 12oz Rainbow and 4lb 4oz Blue Jim Cole, Glasgow, 4 for 14lb 12oz including 6lb 4oz Rainbow Brian Lappin, Paisley, 3 for 10lb 8oz from the Millpond including 2 Blues bigger one at 5lb 8oz Ricky Goodwin, Larbert, 4 for 14lb 12oz including 4lb Rainbow and a Blue  Alan Whitton, Stirling, 4 Blues for 12lb 4oz Greg Lockhart, Dunblane, 3 for 10lb including 4lb Blue Craig Brown, Rutherglen, 3 fo 9lb 8oz Colin Mair, Dumbarton, 3 for 9lb 4oz  Andy Hunter, Alloa, 3 for 9lb 4oz Joe Hunter, Tullibody, 3 for 9lb Jim Allan, Kilsyth, 2 for 8lb 12oz Jim Cameron, Helensburgh, 2 for 6lb 8oz John Thomson, Camelon, 2 for 6lb 8oz including a Blue

Plenty of fish  were landed this week and although there were not many “big “ bags, there were also very few blanks.   All three ponds continue to fish well and are producing some top quality Rainbows and Blues.    Most fish are now being taken on lures, Dancer, Damsel, Ace of Spades and Cat, being the favourite patterns, with some also taking Bloodworm and Buzzers.

This week’s luckiest angler was Andy Wilson from Tillicoultry, who when out in the boat on Friday morning and suffering from really cold hands, hooked a fish and let go of his rod.  After circling in the boat for a while and almost giving up hope, he spotted the handle of his rod and managed to catch the line.  To everyone’s amazement, the fish was still hooked and was safely played and landed!
Ronnie Codona, Glasgow, took the only double figure fish this week, a 10lb 10oz Rainbow in his 3 for 16lb 2oz, which also included 2 Blues Alec Neil, Alva, 3 for 14lb 8oz including 9lb 10oz Rainbow  Sandy Ireland, Lochgoilhead, 4 for 20lb including 8lb Rainbow and 7lb Blue Dougie McLean, Cumbernauld 5 for 14lb 8oz including a Blue Ronnie Loos, Stirling, took 14 for 4olb including 6 Blues over the course of the week Danny Doherty, Denny, 5 for 13lb 6oz Andy Hunter, Alloa, 4 for 11lb 4oz including a Blue John Finlay, Dunipace, 3 for8l 12oz  Bill Dawson, Dollar, 3 for 8lb 8oz  Alan Giebler, Tullibody,3 for 8lb 4oz  John Hester, Cumbernauld, 2 for 6lb 4oz

Another excellent week’s fishing with plenty of good bag limits being taken.  The fish are very active all over the water and being taken on small lures fished on a floating or intermediate line.  If there was any “hot-spot” it was the area behind the islands although the boats were also doing well which shows how well spread out the fish are at present.  Dancer, Damsel, Cat’s Whisker and various Fritz patterns were the favourite lures, with Buzzers also taking fish, and small wet flies such as Kate McLaren and Black Spider doing well on the small ponds where the fish are keener to come up to the surface.   Several fish in the 5lb to 9lb range were landed along with the usual selection of quality Rainbows and Blues.  Ian Borland, Renfrew, took the biggest fish of the week, a 9lb 4oz Rainbow Robert Paton, Stirling, 9lb Rainbow Brian Lappin, Paisley, 2 for 10lb 4oz from the Millpond including 8lb 2oz Rainbow Billy McWilliams, Prestwick, 8lb 2oz Rainbow Kevin Dempster, Prestwick, 4 for 15lb 4oz including 7lb 10oz Rainbow and a Blue Paul Brett, Cowie, 2 for 10lb including 7lb 8oz Rainbow and a Blue Sandy Ireland, Lochgoilhead, 2 for 10lb including 7lb 8oz Rainbow Euan McDougall, Tullibody, 5 for 16lb 4oz including 3 Blues biggest one at 7lb 2oz  John Smith, Dunfermline, 3 for 12lb 6oz including 7lb 2oz Rainbow Kenny Smith, Kilsyth, 6lb 12oz Rainbow from the Meadow Pond Peter Bryce, Alloa, 5 for 17lb including 6lb 8oz Rainbow and 2 Blues Joe Hunter, Tullibody, 5 for 15lb 12oz including 6lb 2oz Rainbow and 4 Blues Willie McAleese, Laurieston, in two visits, 10 for 28lb 12oz including 6 Blues Bob Garvie, Lennoxtown, 3 for 10lb 4 oz including 2 Blues Ken Skilling, Shotts, 5 for 14lb including 4lb 8oz Rainbow Ricky Goodwin, Falkirk, 4 for 13lb, in two visits  Alec Paterson, Sauchie, 4 Blues for 12lb Bill Moonie, 2 for 6lb 8oz

04.11.07

An excellent week’s fishing, with well over 400 fish landed.   Many anglers bagged up without too much difficulty and several went on to catch and release on the small ponds while others bought another ticket and often bagged up again.  The fish were well spread out over the ponds and looking for feed in the top few feet of water.  The colder weather has diminished the natural fly life and the fish are happy to take a wide variety of small lures and nymphs.  Damsel, especially one with a hot-head, Dancer, Cat’s Whisker, Montana, Bloodworm and Buzzers were the favourite patterns with fish also taking small CDCs and other dries on the small ponds.  One double figure Rainbow and one just under the 10lb mark feature in this week’s returns. Gary McDonald, Tillicoultry, 5 for 23lb 2oz including 10lb 10oz Rainbow and a Blue James Elliott, Stirling, 3 for 15lb 4oz including 9lb 12oz Rainbow and 2 Blues John Relf, Falkirk, 6lb 4oz Rainbow Ronnie Loos, Stirling, in 5 visits took 18 for 48lb 8oz including 12 Blues Bill Dawson, Dollar, in 3 visits 9 for 25lb 8oz including 5 Blues  Archie Muir, Glasgow, 9 for 22lb 8oz including 3 Blues Peter Bryce, Alloa, 8 for 24lb including 4 Blues      Andy Wilson, Tillicoultry, 5 for 14lb 8oz including 2 Blues Tam Sneddon and Tam Grant, Polmont, 5 for 14lb 8oz including 3 Blues Grant Findlay, Helensburgh, 4 for 12lb 4oz including 2 Blues Harry Seton, Clydebank, 4 for 12lb Davy Black, Lochgelly, 3 for 10lb 4oz including 2 Blues Kevin Duff, Falkirk, 3 Blues for 10lb  ChrisArmstrong, Airth, 3 for 9lb 6oz including a Blue Alec Knox, Glasgow, 2 for 7lb including a Blue Isobel Heslop, Stirling, 2 for 6lb 12oz 14 year old Matthew Fulton, Greenock, 2 Blues for 6lb 8oz

After a poor start to the week the fishing improved greatly and by the middle of the week it was exceptionally good.  The continuing mild conditions have seen the fish still near the top of the water and being caught all round the ponds.   The shallower area behind the islands was a bit of a hot spot as the water temperature actually rose a couple of degrees.   Geoff Gilbert, on holiday from the Isle of Man, had an excellent week finishing up with 28 for 76lb 12oz including 21 Blues.  Although there were no double figure fish landed this week  a good number in the 5lb to 9lb range were taken. Bob Garvie, Lennoxtown, took the biggest fish of the week in his 2 for 11lb 14oz including 9lb 4oz Rainbow and a Blue Robin Bowler, , 5 for 18lb 12oz including 8lb 9oz Rainbow and 2 Blues Vic Kierlasky, from Angling Centre Stirling, 5 for 18lb 8oz including 8lb 9oz Rainbow and 3 Blues Tom McColgan, Clydebank, 2 for 11lb 2oz including 8lb 9oz Rainbow and a Blue Derek Lindsay, Kilmarnock, 4 for 14lb 12oz from the Meadow Pond, including 8lb 4oz Rainbow Rab Don, Plean, 3 for 11lb 8oz including 6lb10oz Rainbow Charles Devine, Stirling, 3 for 10lb 1oz from the small ponds, including 5lb 9oz Rainbow from the Millpond Eddie Fulton, Livingston, 2 Blues for 8lb 4oz bigger one at 5lb George Simpson, Falkirk, in two visits, 10 for 28lb including 6 Blues Danny Doherty, Denny, 5 for 14lb 8oz including 3 Blues Andy Wilson, Tillicoultry, 3 for 9lb including a Blue

As the week went on and the temperatures rose, the fishing improved.  By the end of the week when it was very mild for the time of year, the fish were moving freely about the water and being taken just under the surface.   Small nymphs such as Damsel, Diawl Bach, PTN, Hare's Ear and Montana, fished on a floating or intermediate line, were the most successful patterns.  The usual small lures - Cat's Whisker and various coloured Dancers - were also catching fish.  Some anglers were even having success with dry flies on the small ponds. Clackmannan angler, Dougie Taylor,  had the best bag of the week with 5 for 16lb 8oz from the Millpond, including 8lb Rainbow and 3 Blues George Kochanek, Tulibody, took the biggest fish from Swanswater in his 3 for 12lb 14oz including 7lb 14oz Rainbow and 2 Blues Other good bags included Davy Huston, Kirkcaldy, 3 for 12lb 4oz including 7lb 10oz Rainbow John McKelvie, East Kilbride, 7lb 8oz Rainbow John Moyes, Grangemouth, 2 for 9lb 4oz including 7lb Rainbow and a Blue Ian Campbell, Glasgow, 3 for 13lb 10oz including Rainbows at 6lb 10oz  and 4lb 12oz Ian Blair, Glenrothes, 2 Blues for 8lb 4oz bigger one at 6lb Alexander Malone, Denny, 2 for 7lb 8oz including 5lb Rainbow and a Blue Ronnie Loos, Stirling, 4 for 13lb including 4lb 8oz Rainbow and 3 Blues Sandy Kypyto, Kirkcaldy, 2 for 7lb 2oz including 4lb 6oz and a Blue Gary Waugh, Cumbernauld, 4 for 12lb including 2 Blues James Elliott, Stirling, in two visits, 4 for 13lb 12oz including 4lb Rainbow and 2 Blues JT Goodall, Stirling, 5lb 12oz Rainbow Colin Mair, Dumbarton, 4lb 8oz Blue Alfred Sanford, Grangemouth, 3 Blues for 9lb 8oz

The cold snap in the middle of the week improved the fishing as the fish became more active.  As the air temperature climbed after the frosty night fish were seen moving all over the surface of the water.   A floating or intermediate line fished with small gold head nymphs was the best method, although fry patterns were also working well especially on the small ponds.  Damsel, Hare’s Ear, Diawl Bach, and Montana were the favourite nymphs with Ace of Spades, Dancer and Viva the favourite lures.  A good number of 5lb to 9lb fish were landed this week and several anglers reported seeing, hooking and losing, or missing some much bigger specimens.  David Hutchison, Dalry, had the biggest fish of the week in his 2 for 11lb 8oz including 9lb Rainbow and a Blue Others doing well included : Billy Weir, Stirling, 5 for 18lb 12oz including 8lb 4oz Rainbow and 3 Blues Ian Laird, Falkirk, 4 for 17lb including 7lb 12oz Rainbow and 2 Blues Ricky Goodwin, Larbert, 4 for 16lb 4oz including 7lb 10oz Rainbow and a Blue Tony Devlin and son, Paul, Linlithgow, shared 5 for 18lb 4oz including 7lb 8oz Rainbow and 2 Blues Dennis Lennon, Airdrie, 2 for 9lb 2oz including 6lb 6oz Rainbow  Peter Baranowski, Bridge of Allan, 2 for 8lb 4oz including 5lb 12oz Rainbow and a Blue John Currie, Irvine, 2 for 8lb including 5lb 8oz Rainbow and a Blue Peter Bryce, Alloa, 5 for 15lb including 2 Blues, bigger one at 4lb 8oz Jim Cole, Muirhead, 4 for 12lb 8oz including 2 Blues John Finlay, Denny, 3 for 10lb including 4lb Gold and 2 Blues Frank Aitcheson, Denny, 3 for 9lb 10oz including 4lb Gold and 2 Blues Ronnie Loos, Stirling, 3 Blues for 9lb 4oz Davy Quinn, Dunfermline, 3 for 9lb 4oz including 2 Blues Charles Devine, Stirling, 2 for 7lb 8oz from the Millpond, including 4lb 12oz Blue Nan Morrison, Stirling, 2 Blues for 6lb 12oz bigger one at 3lb 8oz

The continuing mild weather means the fish are still high in the water and still occasionally taking dry flies.  More often however nymphs, buzzers and small lures, such as Damsel, PTN, Diawl Bach, Hare’s Ear and Dancer, were tempting them.  Although the brown trout season is now finished there is still a good variety of trout available with Rainbows, Blues and Golds still featuring in the catch returns.  Over the season nearly 1500 Browns were landed with an average weight of around 3lb.  Many big browns in the 5lb to 7lb range were landed with the heaviest of the season being a cracking 7lb 8oz taken by Gary Waugh in June.

Amongst this week’s good bags were  John Moyes, Grangemouth, 9lb 2oz Rainbow Vic Kierlarsky 5 for 18lb 8oz including 8lb 8oz Rainbow and 3 Blues Allan McLachlan, Plean, 5 for 19lb 4oz including 8lb Rainbow and 3 Blues Ross Carroll, Stirling, 3 for 12lb 14oz including 7lb 14oz Rainbow and a Blue Donald Graham, Kelty, 2 for 10lb 2oz including 7lb 14oz Rainbow and a Blue George Kochanek, Sauchie, 5 for 18lb including 7lb 8oz Rainbow and 2 Blues Dyce Taljaard, Falkirk, 7lb 8oz Rainbow from the Meadow Pond Alan Burn, Lochore, 2 for 9lb from the Millpond including 6lb 12oz Rainbow and a Blue Jim Black, Stirling, 5 for 17lb including 4 Blues Steven Howden, Edinburgh, 5 for 15lb 12oz including 4 Blues Danny Doherty, Denny, 5 Blues for 15lb 4oz Stuart Cameron, Balloch, 4 Blues for 13lb 8oz biggest one at 4lb 8oz David Stirling, Edinburgh, 4 Blues for 13lb 8oz Robert Davidson, Airdrie, 4 for 12lb including 3 Blues Derek Sibson, Penicuik, 3 Blues for 10lb 1ooz Billy Allan, Cowdenbeath, 3 for 9lb 12oz including 2 Blues John Finlay, Denny, 3 for 9lb 8oz

With the drop in temperature the fish have been taking slightly deeper and although they are still to be seen actively moving around the surface, the best results have been with small lures fished on an intermediate line.  Favourite patterns this week were Damsel, Dancer, Cat’s Whisker, and Ace of Spades.  Also catching were nymphs such as Hare’s Ear, Diawl Bach and Corixa and Buzzers.  At the end of the week anything with a red-head was doing extremely well.  More rainbows are now appearing in the catch returns along with the blues which have been featuring over the past few weeks.  Late season Browns are still being caught and the Goldies continue to be popular especially in the small ponds.
Although there were no really big fish taken this week there were some excellent bags including:   Allan Weir, Plean, 7lb 14oz Rainbow Gavin Hosie, Alloa, 7lb 8oz Rainbow Gerry Kelly, Peebles, 2 for 10lb 4oz including 7lb 4oz Rainbow John Finlay, Denny, 4 for 13lb 8oz including 7lb 2oz Rainbow, 2 Blues and a Brown Robert Martin, Darvel, 2 for 10lb 4oz including 7lb Rainbow Roy Thomson, Newmills, 4 for 14lb including 6lb 8oz Rainbow and 3 Blues S Galloway, 3 for 11lb 4oz including 6lb 6oz Rainbow and 2 Blues Danny Doherty, Denny, 5 for 19lb 12oz including Rainbows at 4lb 12oz and 4lb 8oz and 2 Browns bigger one at 3lb 10oz Grant McCauley, Duntocher, 5 Blues for 15lb 8oz Ronnie Loos, Stirling, 4 for 12lb 8oz including 4lb 8oz Rainbow and a Blue Bill Main,  Fishcross,  4 for 12lb 8oz including 3 Blues and a Brown George Allan, Kelty, 4 for 12lb 14oz including 2 Blues and a Gold Ian Laird and Colin McIntyre, Falkirk, shared 8 for 23lb 8oz including 5lb Rainbow and 4 Blues Jim McInnes, Falkirk, 3 for 12lb Gary McDonald, Tillicoultry, 3 for 10lb 8oz including a Blue Manuel Giraldis, Dunfermline, 3 for 10lb including 5lb Rainbow Dennis Raynor, Stirling, 3 Blues for 9lb 8oz biggest one at 4lb 8oz  Colin Mair, Dumbarton, 2 for 7lb 12oz including 5lb 4oz Rainbow and a Blue Frank Acheson, Denny, 2 for 6lb 8oz Jim Allan, Kilsyth, 4lb 10oz Rainbow

Another week of changing weather, caused anglers to change tactics several times to locate the fish.  During the calm overcast spells the fish were feeding in the top couple of feet of water. Anglers were seeing plenty of surface activity, with fish rising to Daddies and Hoppers.  On the brighter, windier days the fish were going slightly deeper, with best results on Hot Head Damsel, Cormorant, Hare's Ear and Montana. Buzzer and Bloodworm were also proving to be effective.

The biggest fish featured in the catch returns this week was caught by lady angler Petrina Williams, and weighed 8lb 4oz.  Petrina Williams, Alloa, 8lb 4oz Rainbow John Finlay, Denny, 3 for 15lb including 8lb Rainbow, a Blue and a Gold Davy Quinn and Rab Cooper, Dunfermline, shared 5 for 17lb 4oz including 2 Blues and a Brown Danny Doherty, Denny, 5 for 16lb 4oz including 7lb Rainbow, 3 Blues and a Brown Simon Cheung, Milngavie, 2 for 10lb 4oz including 7lb 12oz Rainbow and a Brown Kevin Duff, Alloa, 3 for 12lb 2 oz including 7lb 8oz Rainbow and 2 Blues Peter Bryce, Alloa, 5 for 16lb 8oz including 4 Blues and a Gold  Aileen Brown, Plean, 3 for 10lb 4oz including 5lb 4oz  Rainbow and 2 Blues John Ross 3 for 9lb 6oz including a Blue Andy Wilson, Tillicoultry, 3 for 10lb including 2 Blues Andy Hunter, Alloa, 3 for 9lb 12oz including 2 Bl;ues Kenny Spiers, Glasgow, 5lb 10oz Rainbow Alan Stirling, Bonnybridge, 3 Blues for 9lb 4oz John Goodall, Stirling, 2 for 10lb including 6lb Rainbow and 4lb Blue Robert Barton, Glasgow 3 for 9lb 4oz including 2 Blues Davy Thomson, Alva, 8 Blues for 24lb 8oz in 2 visits George Kochanek, Tullibody, 2 Blues for 6lb 8oz

A good week at Swanswater with the fish feeding near the top of the water except during the very bright spells when they went deeper.  Buzzers, Muddlers, Sedges, Damsel, Daddy, Kate McLaren, Invicta and Dancer were this week's favourite patterns, depending on weather conditions.   As a large proportion of the fish being stocked at present are blue trout, these top quality hard fighting fish figure prominently in the catch returns.  Many are standard stocking size but some are a lot bigger and there are also a good number of bigger Rainbows being stocked along with Goldies and Browns.  One superb double figure Rainbow was landed this week, weighing 14lb, along with some lovely fish in the 5lb to 8lb range. Plenty of great sport at Swanswater this week with the fish still generally in the top two feet of the water and still coming up to dry flies such as Hoppers, Daddies, Mayfly and Sedges.  Fish were seen moving all over the ponds and anglers were getting some superb follows and takes.   Later in the week the wind affected the depth at which the fish were lying and during the windy periods they were taking slightly deeper on wet flies -  Cormorants, Bibio, Invicta and Dunkeld being the favourites, and nymphs especially Caddis, Diawl Bach, Damsel and Hare’s Ear.   Although there were no really big fish landed there were a good number of Rainbows, Blues and Browns in the 5lb to 8lb range taken this week.    As the season progresses and the evenings get shorter the Fishery is now closing at 8.30pm.    Amongst the best bags were: George Simpson, Falkirk, who had a successful week with two outings in the boat, taking 9 for 33lb including Rainbows at 7lb 4oz and 7lb and 7 Blues Steven Mason, Polmont, 3 for 12lb 6oz including 7lb 8oz Rainbow and 2 Blues Peter Bryce, Alloa, 7lb 8oz Rainbow  Neil Turnbull, Linlithgow, 4 for 15lb 12oz including 7lb 2oz Rainbow and 3 Blues David Stirling, Edinburgh, 3 for 13lb including 7lb Rainbow, a Brown and a Blue Chris McLachlan, Plean, 7lb Rainbow Ricky Goodwin, Falkirk, in two visits 4 for 15lb 4oz including 6lb 8oz Brown, a Gold and a Blue  Gordon Colley, Falkirk, 3 for 10lb 12oz including 6lb 6oz Rainbow, a Gold and a Blue Peter O’Brien, Falkirk, 8 for 28lb 6oz including 5lb 10oz Brown and 7 Blues biggest one at 5lb 8oz Kevin Duff, Falkirk, 3 for 10lb 8oz including 5lb 8oz Rainbow and 2 Blues David Paterson, Dunfermline, 2 Blues for 8lb bigger one at 5lb 8oz John Drummond, Plean, 5lb 6oz Rainbow from the Millpond Malcolm Tunnah, Edinburgh, 2 for 7lb 11oz including 5lb Rainbow from the Millpond Willie McAleese, Laurieston, 5 Blues for 15lb 4oz biggest one at 4lb 8oz Ian Fletcher, Kirkcaldy, 5 for 15lb Gary McLaren, Carronshore, 3 Blues for 11lb biggest one at 4lb 8oz  John Gilchrist, Stirling, 3 Blues for 10lb biggest one at 4lb Alex Britton, Edinburgh, 3 Blues for 9lb 10oz biggest one at 4lb 6oz Tam Kelso, Striling, 2 for 7lb 8oz including a Blue and a Gold Davy Quinn, Dunfermline, 2 Blues for 7lb

The fishing improved as the week went on and over half a ton of fish was weighed in.  Hopefully the water will soon clear after the 2 inches of rain that fell on Saturday and conditions will continue to be good.  With low water temperatures for the time of year, the fish are more active than normal for August especially the Brownies.  Fish are being taken on or near the surface and this week’s favourite patterns were Damsel, Dancer, Buzzer, Invicta, Bibio, Hare’s Ear and Cormorant.  The majority of fish being stocked at present are top quality Blues averaging around 2lb 8oz with most of the Rainbows going in at around 4lb to 6lb.  Plenty of Browns are still being taken with their average weight around 3lb.  Stuart Rutherford, Bonnyrigg, 5 for 18lb including 4 Blues biggest at 6lb 10oz George Paterson, Stirling, 5 for 17lb 8oz including 7lb 2oz Rainbow and 4 Blues Andy Wilson, Tillicoultry, 5 for 16lb 8oz including 7lb 4oz Rainbow and 4 Blues Jim Miller, Crieff, 2 for 9lb 8oz including 7lb 8oz Rainbow and a Blue John Richardson, Fallin,  2 for 11lb 12oz including 6lb 8oz Rainbow and 5lb 4oz Brown Frank Barr, Falkirk, and Jim Brown, Townsville, Australia, shared 7 Blues for 21lb biggest at 4lb 10oz from the boat Sandy Ireland, Lochgoilhead, 5 for 16lb 8oz including 3 Blues and 2 Browns, bigger one at 4lb Vic Kierlarsky from Angling Centre Stirling, 4 Blues for 12lb 4oz Stephen Mason, Cumbernauld, 4 for 12lb including 3 Blues and a Brown John Hester, Glasgow, 3 for 10lb 8oz including 4lb Brown and 2 Blues John Finlay, Denny, 3 for 10lb 4oz including 4lb 4oz Rainbow John Snaddon, Tillicoultry, 3 for 9lb 13oz including 4lb 8oz Rainbow and 2 Blues James Elliott, Stirling, in two visits, 6 for 20lb 4oz including 3 Blues, 2 Browns, bigger at 4lb 8oz, and a Gold Ronnie Weir, Linlithgow, 3 for 9lb including a Blue, a Brown and a Gold Ronnie Cadona, Glasgow, 4lb 10oz Brown

A large proportion of the fish being stocked at present are Blues, which are in superb condition and not only look good, but also give a tremendous fight.  Rainbows, Browns and Golds are also being stocked in good numbers but it is the Blues which are attracting the most attention.   The fish have been just below the surface again this week with wet flies or weighted small nymphs on a floating line being the best tactics.  Favourite wets were Invicta, Butcher, Bibio and Kate McLaren with Montana and Damsel the best nymphs.  Fish were also being taken on the top by Daddies, Sedges and CDCs.  Weather conditions have made things quite difficult on occasions especially in the strong breeze and bright sunshine.  The changing conditions from bright sun to rain in a matter of minutes have also confused the fish at times.

Several anglers are making two or more visits to the Fishery every week with varying degrees of success.  Two friends from Oban staying in Stirling for the week were in fishing on five separate occasions – one landed 21 fish and the other 13.   Allan McLachlan, Plean, made 4 visits, and took 12 for 44lb including 6lb 12oz Rainbow, 6lb 8oz Rainbow, 3 Browns and 5 Blues. Two double figure Rainbows were landed with Ian Fisher, Denny taking the biggest fish of the week, a cracking 11lb 13oz Rainbow in his bag of 3 for 17lb 4oz with also included a Blue Rab Don, Plean,  took the other double, a lovely 11lb 5oz Rainbow Peter Baird, Falkirk, 9lb 8oz Rainbow James Elliott, Stirling, 3 Blues for 14lb biggest one at 7lb 12oz Mark Simpson, Tillicoultry, 5 for 16lb 14oz including 7lb 11oz Rainbow and 2 Blues Neil Turnbull, Linlithgow, 3 for 11lb 5oz including 6lb 3oz Rainbow and 2 Blues Tam Clark, Stirling, 3 for 9lb 8oz from the Millpond, including 5lb 12oz Rainbow and 2 Blues Stuart Fraser, Edinburgh, 4 for 15lb including 3 Blues and a Gold Danny Doherty, Denny, 5 Blues for 14lb Barry Morgan, Rosyth, 4 for 12lb Sandy Ireland, Lochgoilhead, 3 for 10lb 4oz including 4lb Rainbow Jim McInnes, Bainsford, 3 for 10lb including a Blue and a Brow

Having missed the worst of the rain, conditions at Swanswater continue to be good.  The water temperature dropped slightly during the course of the week but the fish are still very near the surface and are looking for something to chase.  Wet and dry flies and small nymphs fished on floating lines have been getting the best results, although at times anglers were have to resort to lures to try and annoy the fish.  In general the fishing was better when there was a light breeze, as the still, heavy conditions tend to make the fish more lethargic.  Plenty of Goldies are being stocked which can easily be seen in the ponds, and their behaviour is a good indication as to what the Rainbows and Blues are looking for.   Len Boughen, Maybole, 10lb 8oz Rainbow Laurence Eddie, Grangemouth, in two visits, 4 for 22lb 12oz including 7lb 12oz and 6lb 12oz Rainbows and 4lb Brown Steven Skelton, Gartcosh, 3 for 13lb 8oz including 2 Blues, bigger one at 7b 12oz and a Gold Robin Russell, Denny, 7lb 12oz Rainbow Peter O’Brien, Camelon, 3 for 11lb 8oz including 7lb 8oz Rainbow and 2 Blues Jimmy McGhee, Dennyloanhead, 2 for 9lb 12oz including 6lb 12oz Rainbow and a Brown Stan Moore, Larbert, 2 for 8lb 4oz  from the Meadow Pond, including 6lb 4oz Rainbow and a Gold Kenny Currie, Balloch, 5 for 17lb 6oz including 6lb Rainbow, 2 Browns, a Blue and a Gold Charlie McGrath, Linlithgow, 2 for 8lb 7oz including 6lb Rainbow Paul Carless, Middlesborough, 2 for 8lb 8oz including 6lb Rainbow and a Gold  John Baxter, Wigan, 6lb Brown David Blair, Bo’ness, 6lb Rainbow Gordon Barron, Camelon, 2 Blues for 7lb 8oz bigger one at 5lb 8oz Anton Stephenson, Bonnybridge, 3 for 10lb including 5lb Brown and 2 Blues Davy Quinn, Dunfermline, 2 for 7lb 8oz including 5lb Brown and a BlueDennis Raynor, Stirling, in two visits, 4 for 14lb 8oz  Colin Brown, Sauchie, 3 for 10lb 8oz including 3lb 8oz Brown Catherine McGiffen, Scone, 3 for 9lb 8oz including a Brown and a Blue Colin Tomlinson, Stirling, 2 Blues for 8lb  George Shearer, Caithness, 2 for 7lb 12oz Stewart Skelton, Gartcosh, 2 Blues for 7lb 8oz Alec Peachey, Scone, 2 Browns for 7lb 4oz

Another mixed week with the overcast calm mornings and bright breezy afternoons meaning conditions were very changeable.  Plenty of sport was to be had on or near the surface with dry or wet flies including Muddlers, Daddies and Hoppers, with fish also taking Buzzers and a few nymphs.  During the bright spells the area near the lilies behind the islands was quite productive as the fish were hiding in the shade.  At other times fish were taking all round the pond with the Browns often to be found in the area near the mouth of the burn.  A good number of Rainbows, Blues and Browns in the 4lb 8oz to 7lb range were taken this week with more reports of bigger fish seen or lost.  Charles Devine, Stirling, 3 for 12lb including 7lb 4oz Rainbow and a Blue Colin Tomlinson, Stirling, 2 Blues for 9lb 4oz, bigger one at 7lb 4oz Gavin Stevenson, Stirling, 2 for 8lb 8oz from the Millpond including 6lb 13oz Rainbow Colin Mair, Dumbarton, 3 for 12lb 12oz including Rainbows at 6lb and 4lb 4oz Fraser Dellett, Denny, 2 for 8lb including 6lb Rainbow and a Blue Danny Doherty, Denny, 5 for 15lb including 5lb 7oz Rainbow and 4 Blues Tom Gibson, Bridge of Allan, 2 for 7lb 4oz including 5lb 4oz Rainbow Andy Wilson, Tillicoultry, 5 for 15lb 4oz including 5lb Brown and 4 Blues Stephen Howden, Edinburgh, 5 for 15lb 12oz including 4 Blues George Kochanek, Tullibody, 5 for 15lb including 2 Browns and 2 Blues Alan Giebler, Tullibody, 8 for 25lb 6oz, in two visits, including 2 Browns, bigger at 4lb 14oz, a Gold and 2 Blues David Graham, Kelty, 4 for 12lb 8oz including 2 Blues Ian MacDonald, Stirling, 3 Browns for 9lb 8oz John Finlay, Denny, 3 for 9lb 8oz including 2 Blues David Haddow, Clydebank, 2 for 8lb John Ross, Banknock, 2 Blues for 7lb

The unsettled weather all week has unsettled the fish and made the fishing quite hard at times.  Fishing in the evenings has been consistently better than during the afternoons with the fish very willing to come up to wet and dry flies.  The best wet patterns were  Bibio, Black Pennell and Kate McLaren, with Daddies, Sedges, Klinkhammers and even size 22  Shuttlecock Buzzers being the favourite dries.  Although nothing really big was landed there were several reports of big fish being seen and of anglers being broken.  The dirty water from excavations upstream which affected Swanswater last weekend has now cleared and the burn is running clean.  Kenny Spiers, Glasgow, 7lb 4oz Blue Peter Hepburn, Fife, 4 for 13lb 2oz including 3 Blues biggest at 6lb 8oz  Graeme Seivwright, Fife, 3 for 10lb 10oz including 6lb 5oz Rainbow and a Brown Sandy Ireland, Lochgoilhead, 5 for 17lb 8oz including 3 Browns, biggest at 6lb 4oz and a Blue Mitch Gilhooley, Fife, 3 for 13lb 8oz including 6lb Rainbow Bill Main, Fishcross, 3 Blues for 11lb 8oz biggest one at 6lb John Primrose, Cumbernauld, 3 for 10lb 12oz including 5lb 12oz Blue and a GoldAlan Henderson, Grangemouth, 5 for 15lb 4oz including 2 Browns, bigger one at 5lb 8oz and a Blue John Tomely, Burnside, 4 for 13lb 12oz including 5lb 8oz Brown and 2 Blues Jim Denny, Dunipace, 5lb 8oz Rainbow from Meadow Pond Ricky Rutherford, Bo’ness, 3 for 9lb 8oz including 5lb 6oz Rainbow and 2 Blues Martin Keenan, Falkirk, 3 for 8lb 8oz from the  Millpond including 5lb 4oz Rainbow and a Gold Scott Seath, Alva, 5lb 4oz Rainbow from Meadow Pond Danny Doherty, Denny, 7 for 17lb 12oz including 4lb 4oz Rainbow, 4 Blues and a Brown John Jackson, Dunfermline, 4 for 12lb 8oz including 4lb Brown and 2 Blues Alec Kelso, Stirling, 4 for 12lb 4oz including 4lb 13oz Rainbow and a Blu  Allan McLachlan, Plean, 3 for 10lb 8oz including a Brown and a Blue Jim Gunn, Fife, 2 Browns for 7lb 4oz bigger one at 4lb 12oz Peter Bryce, Alloa, 2 Browns for 7lb Angus Auchinachie, Falkirk, 2 for 7lb including 4lb 8oz Brown and a Blue Ian Crookes, Strontian, 2 for 7lb including 4lb 4oz Brown

The fish have been in the top foot of the water this week and have been caught in bursts during the day with the fishing often more consistent in the evenings.  With large numbers of sedges, midges and damsel flies around the fish are willing to come up to take dry flies off the top or wet flies from just under the surface.   Hoppers, Muddlers and Daddy Long Legs were the best dry patterns with Bibio, Soldier Palmer and Black Pennell the favourite wets.   Olive Damsels were also very successful during the day.  It was another good week for Brown trout with almost 20% of all fish landed being Browns including some real crackers around 4lb.  No double figure fish were landed this week but there are plenty of superb 5lb to 8lb Rainbows and Blues being taken.   Mike Watson, Banknock, 3 for 12lb including 7lb 12oz Rainbow, a Gold and a Blue Donny McKenzie, Kilbirnie, 7lb 4oz Rainbow Alan Anderson, Stirling, 2 for 9lb including 6lb 8oz Rainbow and a Brown Charles Devine, Stirling, 5 for 16lb 8oz including 6lb Rainbow, 3 Blues and a Gold Stan Johnston, Newcastle, 4 for 13lb 10oz including 2 Blues bigger one at 6lb and a Brown Kevin Gold, Stirling, 3 for 10lb 8oz including 6lb Rainbow and a Blue Willie McAleese, Laurieston, 4 for 14lb including 3 Blues biggest at 5lb and a 4lb Rainbow Malcolm McKerracher, Balfron, 4 for 12lb including 3 Blues and 4lb 4oz Rainbow Alan McLachlan, Plean, 4 for 12lb including 2 Blues and 2 Browns John Ross, Banknock, 4 for 12lbJohn Alcock, Alexandria, 3 for 11lb 4oz including 2 Browns bigger at 4lb and a Blue Paul Kennedy, Falkirk, 3 for 10lb 5oz including 2 Browns bigger one at 4lb 8oz Lee Petale, Stirling, 3 for 9lb 8oz including 4lb 8oz Rainbow and a Brown Brian McIntosh, Banknock, 3 for 9lb 4oz including 3lb 4oz Brown and 2 Blues Andrew Hepburn, Whins of Milton, 2 Browns for 8lb Richard Elder, Glasgow, 2 Browns for 7lb 4oz David Duncan, Grangemouth, 2 Blues for 7lb Bert Sibbald, Dunipace, 2 for 6lb 12oz including 4lb Brown and a Blue Anthony McKay, Paisley, 2 for 6lb 8oz including 4lb Brown and a Blue

Some superb Rainbows in the 5lb to 8lb range were landed this week along with some cracking Browns around the 5lb mark.  Fish are being taken all over the lochs with most lying in the top couple of feet.  Wet flies, dry flies and nymphs on a floating or intermediate line were the best tactics with Bibio, Kate McLaren, Spiders, Muddlers, Diawl Bach and Damsel being the favourite patterns.  The unsettled weather has made the fishing a little more difficult some days. The water remains very clear despite the heavy showers although the temperature has been fluctuating with the air temperatures.   Ross Carroll, Stirling, took the biggest fish of the week in his bag of 3 for 13lb 12oz including 8lb 12oz Rainbow and 2 Blues Donald Williamson, Falkirk, had the best bag with 3 for 16lb 8oz including 7lb 12oz Rainbow, 6lb 8oz Rainbow and a Brown Bill Mouat, Stepps, 3 for 13lb 2oz including 6lb 7oz Rainbow and 2 Browns Kevin Duff, Alloa, 3 for 11lb 12oz including 6lb 4oz Rainbow and a Blue David Lamberton, Kippen, 2 for 8lb including 6lb Rainbow and a Blue Alec Peachey, Scone, 3 for 10lb 6oz inclu  ding 5lb 10oz Rainbow, a Brown and a Blue James Elliott, Stirling, 3 for 10lb 12oz including 5lb 4oz Rainbow and 2 Blues Alec Paterson, Sauchie, 5lb 4oz Rainbow Sandy McMeechan, Fallin, 5lb 2oz Brown George Kochanek, Tullibody, 5 for 15lb 12oz including 5lb Brown and a Blue Derek Graham, Sauchie, 3 for 11lb including 5lb Rainbow and a Brown John Kirkwood, Glasgow, 2 for 7lb 8oz including 5lb Rainbow Gary Walsh, Larbert, 2 Browns for 7lb 2oz John Moyes, Bo'ness, 2 for 7lb 8oz including 3lb Brown Grant McCauley, Duntocher, 5 for 15lb 4oz including 3 Blues and a Brown Rory Cameron, Tillicoultry, 4 for 14lb 8oz including 2 Blues Colin Tomlinson, Stirling, 3 for 9lb 4oz Peter Connelly, Dailly, 3 for 9lb including 2 Blues Alan Currie, Glasgow, 4lb Brown

This week saw the best week for Browns so far this season and the biggest one this year, 7lb 8oz, caught by Gary Waugh of Cumbernauld.  As the week progressed and the temperatures dropped again, the fishing in the evenings improved greatly with some really good sport to be had later in the day.  The fish were no more than a couple of feet down in the water and happy to come up to wet and dry flies, with Bibio, Spider, Snatcher, Bloodworm and Buzzer amongst the most successful patterns.  Some anglers were successful with a fast retrieve whilst others found that a more gentle approach worked better.   The catch returns show one double figure Rainbow landed and a number of Browns, Blues and Rainbows in the 4lb 8oz to 7lb 8oz range also taken.  David Hill, Cambus, 10lb 7oz Rainbow Gary Waugh, Cumbernauld, 3 for 16lb including 2 Browns at 7lb 8oz and 6lb 2oz and a Blue George Kellichan, Dunfermline, 4 for 17lb 4oz including 7lb 2oz Blue, 4lb Rainbow and 3lb Brown Davy Quinn, Dunfermline, 3 for 14lb 10oz including 6lb 8oz Rainbow, and 2 Browns bigger one at 4lb 13oz Darren Currie, Falkirk, 2 for 8lb 8oz from the Millpond including 6lb 4oz Rainbow Gavin Hosie, Alloa, 6lb Brown John Walker, Stirling, 2 for 9lb 4oz including 5lb 12oz Brown and a Blue Frank Barr, Falkirk, 4 for 12lb including 2 Blues, bigger one at 5lb 8oz Isidro Carbonell, Carronbridge, 4 for 12lb 6oz including 3 Blues, biggest one at 5lb 6oz 14 year old Martin Buchanan, Alva, 4 for 10lb 4oz from the small ponds including 5lb 4oz Rainbow John Ross, Banknock, 3 for 12lb 6oz including 5lb Blue  Ken Stewart, Gargunnock, 3 for 9lb including 5lb Rainbow and a Blue Jim Craig, Balloch, 3 Browns for 10lb 8oz biggest one at 4lb 6oz Lee Petale, Stirling, 3 for 10lb 8oz including 2 Blues and a Brown Colin Tomlinson, Stirling, 3 for 10lb 6oz Peter O’Brien, Falkirk, 3 for 9lb 8oz  Alan Martin, Clydebank, 3 for 9lb including a Blue James Elliott, Stirling, 3 for 8lb 12oz including 4lb Rainbow

The calm, clammy conditions all week meant the fish were not far below the surface.  The very visible Goldies were causing much frustration when they were seen to be turning away just inches away from the fly.  The Browns were looking for something to chase and those willing to work hard at their retrieve were rewarded by some cracking fish.  Although there were no double figure fish landed there were a good number of Rainbows, Blues and Browns in the 4lb 8oz to 8lb range taken.  Dry flies, including Daddy Long Legs and Muddlers, were doing well this week, as were Bloodworm and various small nymphs. The fishing was definitely better this week when there was a ripple on the water.  On the really calm days it was quite tough but as soon as a breeze got up the fish were being taken in the top 12 to 18 inches.  The good flow of water through the fishery means that there is always plenty of oxygen in the water and the fish are active all round the ponds, although the Browns in particular tend to favour the area around the mouth of the burn.  Only one double figure fish was taken this week but there were a good number of Rainbows, Blues and Browns in the 5lb to 6lb range.  The Goldies are already proving frustrating as the clarity of the water means they can easily be seen and targeted although they often turn away just before taking the fly.  Dry flies, such as Muddler, Hopper, Daddy Long Legs and Black Spider have been very successful this week, with the Browns preferring wet flies such as Bibio, Kate McLaren and Diawl Bach.  George Paterson, Stirling, 3 for 17lb 10oz including 12lb Rainbow Kevin Scott, Fallin, 6lb 6oz Rainbow and 5lb 6oz Brown Greg Hoggan, Stirling, 2 for 8lb 4oz including 6lb 6oz Blue Mark Watson, Fishcross, 3 for 10lb 8oz including 5lb 12oz Blue Allan McLachlan, Plean, 3 for 11lb 8oz including 5lb 8oz Blue Rab Cooper and Davy Quinn, Dunfermline, shared 4 Browns for 14lb biggest one at 5lb 8oz Duncan McPherson, East Kilbride, 2 Browns for 7lb 8oz bigger one at 5lb 6oz John Moyes, Grangemouth, 2 for 7lb 12oz including 5lb 4oz Rainbow Petrina Williams, Alloa, 5lb 4oz Brown  Alec Peachey, Scone, 3 for 9lb from the Millpond, including 5lb Rainbow Andy Henderson, Glasgow, 5lb Blue from the Meadow Pond John Gordon, Kelty, 2 Browns for 8lb 8oz bigger one at 4lb 8ozFrank Barr, Falkirk, 5 for 15lb 12oz including a Brown Sandy Ireland, Lochgoilhead, 5 for 14lb 6oz including a Brown Gerry Dawson, Stirling, 5 for 14lb 3oz Alan Buchan, Stirling, 5 for 14lb 2oz including a Blue and a Gold Scott Pryce, Balloch, 5 for 14lb 8oz including 4lb Brown Murray Hunter, Plean, 4 for 12lb including a Gold Jim Miller, Stirling, 3 for 10lb 4oz Colin Binnie, Denny, 3 for 9lb 10oz including 2 Browns Alan Smith, Cumbernauld, 3 for 9lb 8oz including 2 Browns bigger one at 4lb  R Turnbull, Helensburgh, 2 for 7lb 12oz

The first of this year’s Golden Trout were stocked in the small ponds this week and 14 year old Connor Nicol from Plean, weighed in the first one.  Over the coming weeks many more of these highly visible fish will be stocked in Swanswater as well as in the Mill and Meadow Ponds.   Some superb big Browns were taken from Swanswater including three of the five biggest fish of the week and the biggest brown of the season so far.   The fish are now very active and are taking in the top 12 to 18 inches of the water.  Many anglers are having a lot of fun with dry flies although the best results are still to be had using traditional wets or nymphs fished on either a floating or intermediate line.  The Fishery is now open until 10.00pm every evening.  Conditions early in the week led to some excellent fishing although the blustery wind towards the weekend spoilt things a little.  The fish are being taken in the top 2 feet and best results have been intermediate lines fished with small traditional flies.  Lures and buzzers were also taking fish although the large number of Browns figuring in the catch returns were mostly caught on small traditional wet flies such as Bibio, Kate McLaren, Soldier Palmer and Black Pennel.  One double figure Rainbow was landed this week, several Blues and Rainbows in the 5 to 8lb range and a good number of cracking Browns, the biggest of which were around 4lb 8oz.  The cool east wind has kept the fish below the surface although some have been seen moving on the top.  The water temperature has dropped a couple of degrees and fish are being caught all round the pond.  Fishing has been steady all week with some superb fish featuring in the catch returns.  Around 50 Browns over 3lbs have been taken this week with the biggest ones well over 4lb.  Many were taken on small traditional flies such as Kate McLaren and Bibio fished on an intermediate line with the fish lying about 2ft to 3ft down.  One double figure rainbow was landed this week along with some cracking Blues up to 6lb  Thomas Brown, Ayr, took the biggest fish of the week an 11lb 8oz Rainbow in his bag of 3 for 17lb  Rab Don, Plean, 9lb 10oz Rainbow Gordon Hall, Coalsnaughton, 2 for 8lb 4oz including 6lb 4oz Rainbow Ken Speirs, Glasgow, 4 for 16lb 8oz including 6lb Blue and 4lb  8oz Blue David Laird, Larbert, 2 for 8lb including 6lb Blue Darren Currie, Larbert, 2 for 8lb from the Millpond, including 6lb Blue Jim Allan, Kilsyth, 3 for 10lb 12oz including 5lb 8oz Rainbow Drew Allan, Clydebank, 5lb 8oz Rainbow S Chow, Glasgow, 3 for 10lb 4oz including 5lb 4oz Rainbow Paul Shannon, Clydebank, 2 for 7lb 8oz  from the Meadow Pond including 5lb Blue Stephen Hodge, Anstruther, 3 for 9lb 10oz including 2 Browns bigger one at 4lb 10oz  13 year old Jamie McDougall, East Kilbride, 2 for 8lb 6oz including 4lb 8oz Rainbow John Keane and Ian Bruce, Beith, fishing from the boat, 10 for 29lb including 4lb 4oz Brown and 2 Blues for John Ron Anderson, Perth, 4 for 12lb 6oz including 2 Browns John Duncan, Dumbarton, 4 for 11lb 8oz including 2 Browns, bigger at 4lb and a Blue Jamie Masterson, Stirling, 3 Browns and a Blue for 10lb 12oz Duncan McDougall, East Kilbride, 2 for 7lb 4oz including a Brown A Quinn, fishing with Kype Angling Club, 4lb 11oz Brown Chris Green, Blackford, 4lb 6oz Brown

The east wind most of the week tended to keep the fish down about 3 to 4 feet, with only sporadic rises. Towards the end of the week the fish became more active especially the Browns, taking dry flies and wet flies.

Changeable weather led to changeable fishing with conditions varying from day to day.  On the bright sunny days the best times were either early morning or between 6.00pm and 7.00pm when the sun was dipping behind the hill.  On other days the fish were taking at any time and there were no particular hot spots with fish being taken all round the ponds.  Two double figure Rainbows and several excellent rainbows, browns and blues around the 5lb mark landed this week.   Small wet flies and nymphs fished on an intermediate line were working well with some anglers enjoying success on dry flies.  Bibio, Hare’s Ear, PTN, Red-head Damsel, Yellow Dancer and Diawl Bach were amongst the most successful patterns. On the days when conditions were looking pretty tough, the fishing was much better than on the days when the wind was in the west, there was good cloud cover and things should have been easier!  Best results were with either an intermediate line with wet flies or nymphs, or a floating line with a weighted lure on the point.  More and more Browns are being taken on wet flies with Bibio and Snatcher being the best patterns.  Hot-head Damsel, Yellow Dancer and Crafteye Cat were the most successful lures.  A good variety of both size and type of fish were landed this week with Rainbows up to 7lb, Browns up to 5lb and some superb Blues around the more average stocking size.   Gary Waugh, Airdrie, had a good week when in four visits he took 14 for 47lb 2oz including 5lb 10oz Rainbow, 4lb 3oz Brown, 6 other Browns and a Blue  Other good bags included Andy Henderson, Glasgow, 3 for 12lb 8oz including 7lb Rainbow Jimmy Wynne, Bathgate, 2 for 9lb including 6lb Rainbow Dennis Lennon, Airdrie, 4 for 14lb 1oz including 6lb Rainbow John Walker, Stirling, 4 for 13lb 4oz including 5lb 10oz Rainbow Davy Thomson, Alva, 5 for 14lb 12oz including 5lb 8oz Rainbow Sandy Ireland, Lochgoilhead, 5 for 17lb including 5lb 6oz Rainbow and 2 Browns bigger one at 4lb 2oz Craig Irvine, Bonnybridge, 3 for 10lb 4oz including 5lb 2oz Rainbow and a Blue Peter Cochrane, Glasgow, 5 for 15lb 8oz including 4lb 6oz Rainbow and 4lb Brown John Gordon, Kelty, 4 for 12lb 8oz Jim McInnes, Bonnybridge, 4 for 11lb 11oz including 3 Browns biggest at 4lb Alex Wilkie, Coatbridge, 4 for 11lb 12oz including a Blue and a Brown Stephen Mason, Cumbernauld, 3 for 9lb 12oz Andy Hunter, Alloa, 3 for 9lb 12oz including 2 Browns bigger one at 4lb 12oz Alec Paterson, Sauchie, 3 for 9lb 2oz Peter Paterson, Menstrie, 3 for 8lb 8oz including 2 Browns and a Blue John Pearson, Bannockburn, 3 for 8lb 4oz from the Meadow Pond including 4lb 8oz Blue Donald Williamson, Falkirk, 5lb Brown David Robertson, 4lb 10oz Rainbow from Millpond George Dobbie, Glasgow, 4lb 8oz Blue Aileen Brown, Plean, 4lb 6oz Brown

One lucky angler, Gary Aitcheson from Glasgow, on his first visit, caught his first ever fish on the fly – an 8lb 6oz Blue.  He had hooked and lost a couple of fish earlier in the day and when he netted the big one it still had his original Yellow Dancer in its mouth!  Several other fish in the 5lb to 8lb range were landed this week along with one double figure Rainbow.   Plenty of superb Brownies feature in the returns.  Although the bright sunshine meant the fish were sometimes hard to find those fishing deep and slow were having the best results.  The Brownies on the other hand are looking for something to chase and many anglers are getting followed right in to the bank with fish taking very close in.  Damsel, Dancer, Bloodworm, Buzzers and Bibio were the most successful patterns, with the Browns taking much the same lures as the Rainbows. Mick Dempster, Balloch, took the biggest fish of the week in his bag of 3 for 15lb 12oz including 11lb Rainbow Sandy Donald, Dunblane, had a good day with a cracking bag of 2 for 16lb 8oz including 8lb 12oz and 7lb 12oz Rainbows Gary Aitcheson, Glasgow, 8lb 6oz Blue Kevin Doyle, Clydebank, 2 for 9lb 8oz including 6lb 12oz Rainbow David McCreadie, Coatbridge, 4 for 12lb 2oz including 5lb 8oz Blue Nan Morrison, Stirling, 5lb 8oz Rainbow Paul Christie, Alloa, 8 for 23lb 4oz, in two visits, including 5lb Rainbow and 2 Blues Colin Paton, Burnley, 5lb Blue from the Meadow Pond Stephen Murray, Alloa, 5lb Rainbow from Millpond Archie McClymont, Glasgow, 5 for 14lb including a Brown Willie McAleese, Laurieston, 5 for 14lb Gary Waugh, Airdrie, 4 for 11lb 8oz including 3 Browns Stuart Galloway, Coatbridge, 3 for 10lb 4oz including 3lb 12oz Brown Jim Russell, Denny, 3 for 9lb 12oz including 2 Browns bigger one at 4lb 3oz David Graham, Wishaw, 2 for 8lb including 4lb 12oz Brown  Davy Quinn, Dunfermline, 2 for 6lb 12oz including 4lb 8oz Brown Frank Barclay, Clydebank, 2 for 6lb 8oz form the Millpond including 4lb 8oz Rainbow John Mathieson, Deanston, 2 for 6lb 2oz Peter Humphrey, Livingston, 2 Browns for 5lb 8oz Greg Kelso, Alloa, 4lb Brown
